A Word to the Wise
At the risk of extrapolating a sentence from scripture to give more credibility to my point, I look to Ephesians 4:15a, “but, speaking the truth in love.” While reading Ephesians chapter 4 this partial sentence called to mind the current practice of attacking a political opposite’s character. A brief examination of the context to support this thought failed to do so. Hence my opening sentence.
The apostle Paul’s intended audience is believing Gentiles, and he is addressing how they should behave toward one another as the Church. BUT, is it too far afield of the context to use Paul’s exhortation to remind the Church today how we should behave toward others who are not like minded?
We who identify as the Church often post things on social media that attack or mock our political opposite’s character. Should we not rather disagree civilly (Politely) with their world and life perspective? In other words, “Speak the truth in love.” Now some might go where I went after writing this; is our perspective always, “The truth?”
I’m reminded of the idiom, “Silence is Golden,” but if we must go, “where angels {would} fear to tread;” use Scripture. If applied correctly, we would more often than not be speaking the truth.
Soli Deo gloria,
Casey
