God is Great

A Word to the Wise

We are to show respect for those in authority. The apostle Paul was called out for reviling Ananias the High Priest for commanding he be slapped, “And those who stood by said, “Do you revile God’s high priest?” Then Paul said, “I did not know, brethren, that he was the high priest; for it is written, ‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’” (Acts 23:4-5)

We are not even to wish evil to come upon those who govern us. “Do not curse the king, even in your thoughts…” (Ecclesiastes 10:12a)

Rather than condemning our political adversaries, let us plead in our prayers to God to bring them to repentance and faith in Jesus before it’s too late. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, (He is returning to Judge the living and the dead.) but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)

Let us not be Jonahs. Jonah was upset when the Ninevites repented. How many evangelicals would be like Jonah if say those for whom they disagree politically were to become a brother or sister in Christ. Too many would not rejoice with all of heaven over their being rescued from the wrath of God.

Replacing the president won’t fix what’s broken. I urge evangelicals to redirect the time and passion they put into “Making America Great Again” into making disciples. Let us rather make the Lord God of heaven and earth great in the hearts of people.

“Let us proclaim the name of the LORD. And praise the greatness of our God!” (Deuteronomy 32:3)
