Our Time Better Spent

Being retired, I spend too much time perusing the daily Facebook posts, news stories, and articles. I have come to believe my conservative political identity leans more to the moderate perspective. I am not an ultra-conservative or a MAGA. Nor am I woke.

Like the Bereans, I diligently search the scriptures to determine if what Christians are saying and supporting politically is Biblical.

The Church as an institution must act as a prophetic critic when the government fails to act justly, protect human life, or maintain righteousness, however the Church is to proclaim God’s truth. Its power lies in the Gospel, not in earthly rule.

I am concerned about the emphasis and time Christians have given to, “Making America Great Again.” Christians are often so engaged in political activity that the gospel is no longer their priority. Jesus made preaching the Gospel and making disciples the Christian’s priority.

(Jeremiah 29:7) instructs the exiled Israelites and I believe Christians to “seek the welfare of the city (Country)… for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” Christians should be active in praying for the city (Country), being active in civic life, and working for its well-being through good deeds, however, I would contend that preaching the Gospel is the best way to seek America’s welfare.
