God's Word to the Wise

(Philippians 2:12-13) “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” (Emphasis Mine)

(Hebrews 13:20-21) “Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.” (Emphasis Mine)

Being raised a Bible Presbyterian I believe God’s revelation in Scripture to be without error. So what God reveals about the spiritual domain is true. Yes demons and angels do exist and are currently active, but I strenuously resist the charismatic fascination with the world on the other side of the vale. 

The problem with my aversion to the charismatic doctrine has negatively impacted my acceptance of the Holy Spirit’s daily involvement in the lives of His people. Recently I have been thinking about some people who I haven’t been in contact with for a long time. I “Felt” I needed to restore contact with them. Last week contact was restored with 3 of them with no effort on my part. One walked into a coffee shop where Victoria and I suddenly decided to kill some time before an appointment. Friday I reconnected with another of my “Felt Contacts” in the least likely place they would be found. Still another accepted a Friend request on Facebook sent two years ago.

Is their coming to mind and then suddenly appearing the Holy Spirit’s doing? I have to answer yes. God is sovereign in all things and providentially, actively involved in His creation, which rules out coincidence. This old presbyterian has discovered that his God brings to life cold orthodoxy.
