I can’t join in with the current fascination amongst evangelicals with people’s alleged conversations with Jesus. The New Testament reveals just two such encounters after Jesus’ ascension. Saul, later known as the apostle Paul, and the apostle John. In both instances Jesus had a “Definate purpose” for His personal interaction with them.
Saul was called by the Lord to be an apostle and to preach the gospel to the Gentiles. John was visited and told to write down what he witnessed. What he wrote later became the last book of the New Testament, Revelation. Jesus also appeared to both of these men in His post ascension state of glorification.
My question is why would Jesus appear to those currently claiming such a meeting? He told the apostle Thomas that, “You believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)
Faith that needs to see evidence isn’t faith. (Hebrews 11:1) “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
