Dear Fellow Saints. Change Your Emphasis.

Recently a dear friend expressed frustration with me because I had criticized President Trump. They could not understand how so many fellow Christians are blind to the president’s efforts to make America great again. I am assuming they had included me in this group of the blind.

Why are so many Christians trying to get it all politically fixed up now? Why are they trying to make America the perfect place to live? Why do they put more emphasis on making America great and put very little, if any, effort in adding to the number of pilgrims who are just passing through. America is not my home. I’m not going to live here forever. I’m going to live eternally in the promised land; the new earth.

I am to, “Work to see that the place where God has temporarily placed me enjoys peace and prosperity, and pray to the Lord for it. For as it prospers so will I prosper.” (Jeremiah 29:7) My MAGA friends are obsessed with the idea that to return America to its former “God ordained Greatness” will cure what ails it. It is as if America is the land promised by God in Scripture.

My fellow pilgrims, It is NOT! You are making the same mistake the people of God, Israel, made and are still making; anticipating the Kingdom of God will be established on this sin infested earth. Jesus told Pilate, “My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my servants would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish authorities. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.” (John 18:36)

God has not appeared to me, nor spoken audibly to me. Neither has He revealed anything to me by dream or vision. What I tell you I know because the God/Man, Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, has revealed it to me in the Scriptures. “After God spoke long ago in various portions and in various ways to our ancestors through the prophets, in these last days he has spoken to us in a son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he created the world.” (Hebrews 1:1-2)

My American citizenship is similar to the apostle Paul’s Roman citizenship. I use it to more effectively do what Jesus has commanded the disciples/apostles and every Christian to do. “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

Therefore my fellow saints, instead of making MAGA republicans, make disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ. This change of emphasis will do more to cure what ails America than making America great again.
