Another person has abandoned me because of my politics. My revised version of classic 1972 hit song “Stuck in the Middle with You” by the Scottish rock band Stealers Wheel would go something like this:
Liberals to the left of me, MAGA’s to the right, here I am, stuck in the middle with me.
I have been encouraged to steer clear of politics. I write my Blog, “God’s word to the Wise” seeking to point hearts and minds back to Scripture. I want to share how God’s Word speaks into everyday life—our struggles, questions, and decisions—with clarity and compassion. Politics is a large part of “Everyday Life.” Therefore, I cannot steer clear of them.
I am not one to abandon a friendship over political or religious differences. I am humbled and thankful for you who are willing to call me a friend despite the fact that we are polar opposites politically and religiously. I close this with God’s Word in (Proverbs 27:17) “As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” Who better than a friend to challenge our religious and political predilections.
