Talking with a friend last night we joked about what God does to us to get us out of His way. He says, (Not audibly) Casey just stand aside and witness my power. I was wearing a tool belt with what I believed was every tool required to get the job done when the men of the church came to add a front porch to the parsonage. They asked me, “What’s up with the tool belt?” I said I was here to help. One of them “kindly” said, “Take it off, set it on the ground, and slowly back away from it.”
Before we can discover God’s power and strength in all of its fullness, we must be brought face to face with our own inability and weakness.
The most well-known scripture for God’s power being revealed through weakness is (2 Corinthians 12:9-10), where the Apostle Paul writes, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me”. This passage explains that God’s strength is displayed most effectively when humans are at their most vulnerable, encouraging believers to embrace their weaknesses as opportunities for God to show His power.
